U.Va. capital campaign exceeds $3 billion goal

CHARLOTTESVILLE The University of Virginia's capital campaign has exceeded its $3 billion goal. The university says in a news release that it received donations from more than 220,000 individuals and corporations. The gifts included both small and large contributions. Some donors transferred ownership of art, real estate and rare and historic maps to U.Va.

CHARLOTTESVILLE After nine years and despite a recession, the University of Virginia has exceeded its $3 billion fundraising goal. President Teresa A. Sullivan announced during graduation exercises Sunday that the university had met the goal, calling it "the most ambitious capital campaign in the history of public higher education."

CHARLOTTESVILLE Strategic planning and the selection of a new vice rector are on the agenda for University of Virginia Board of Visitors. The board will meet today and Tuesday in the Rotunda on the university's campus in Charlottesville. Board members will choose a replacement for Vice Rector George K. Martin. Martin will become rector in June when Helen Dragas' two-year term ends.
