About

December 6th, 2011

Virginia Education Report (VER) is an independent, non-partisan news and commentary source about public schooling in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

HOMEROOM

In our Homeroom section we publish and syndicated news and analysis about school politics, policy, and research. These articles are either syndicated from select newspapers around the Commonwealth or manually created by VER staff.

THE LOUNGE

The Faculty Lounge is our opinion and commentary section, and—like the op-ed section of a newspaper—is editorially separate from our news section.  Here we’ll showcase the informed perspectives of leaders, teachers, parents, students, and other public school stakeholders. We aim to publish pieces that offer nuanced and personal insights into issues facing schools, teachers, families, and education policy.

Submission Policy
We welcome contributions from people with informed perspectives on Virginia schools. Readers are invited to submit ideas for one-time posts or ongoing column-style series by contacting thelounge@virginiaedreport.org

We are more likely to accept submissions that draw on personal experiences inside schools or advance policy debates with new information or insights. We typically will not publish submissions from public relations professionals, anonymous posts, or responses to pieces that appeared on VER or elsewhere. We will not publish anything that is obscene or factually incorrect.

The Lounge section posts are subject to editing for style, structure, accuracy, and argument. Writers retain final approval of posts before they are published.

Disclaimer
The opinions of Faculty Lounge contributors are their own and do not necessarily reflect that of VER founders, editors, or staff—or any organization with which they are respectively affiliated. We aim for this to be a forum for a diversity of thought on education issues.

COMMENTS
We encourage vigorous debate and welcome constructive criticism of our coverage. We especially welcome comments that advance dialogue about education issues in thoughtful, substantive ways. However, we do reserve the right to moderate these discussions and will delete comments that violate our values of civil discourse.  Simply put, we will not tolerate comments that are obscene, off-topic, spam, or personal attacks.
